What makes this island different

Forest Island is where the game separates optional boss fishing from story progression. The Old Pike uses a purchased lure, but the actual route forward begins with three physical Leech pickups around the lake and settlement.

Priority route

1. Talk to the woman beside the lake until the Leech request is active.
2. Collect the three ground pickups before spending money on optional boss lures.
3. Buy a Shotgun and enough ammunition for a boss plus its smaller piranha group.
4. Exchange the Leeches for the Modified Leech and use it in the lake.
5. Defeat Giant Piranha, preserve the skeleton and return it for Desert coordinates.

Forest Island route

1. Talk to the lake quest NPC until the objective is active.
2. Collect three small Leech pickups from the nearby ground.
3. Return them and keep the Modified Leech.
4. Clear the Giant Piranha’s smaller minions, then defeat the boss.
5. Return the skeleton / quest trophy for the next coordinates.

Money and upgrade decisions

Forest adds ordinary Beginner Lures, the $40 Beginner Boss Lure, firearms, Dynamite and weapon upgrades. The Shotgun is the most useful progression purchase. The Old Pike is a valid collection target, but its lure competes directly with the money needed for the required Piranha fight.

Navigation and quest-item route

The story loop stays close to the inland lake: quest NPC, three ground Leech pickups, boss water and hand-in are all part of the same chain. Use the illustrated Leech guide if a small pickup blends into the ground instead of circling the full island repeatedly.

Progression checkpoints

When to do optional work

Fight Old Pike after the Shotgun and main quest are funded. Normal Beginner Lure fishing is useful for cash and collection progress, while optional boss attempts can safely wait until the Desert contact has been unlocked.

Solo and co-op route differences

Solo

Solo players should bring healing and keep all visible threats in one direction. Clear only the minions preventing a clean boss shot, then use sideways movement against the Piranha’s jump.

Co-op

Assign a minion-control role and a boss-damage role, but keep both players near the same side of the lake. Split teams can drag the pack across firing lanes and make the boss harder to track.

Common route mistakes

• Fishing for Leeches instead of looking for ground pickups.
• Buying the Old Pike lure before progression equipment.
• Spending the whole boss timer on minions.
• Defeating Giant Piranha but failing to return its skeleton.
